Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Welcome! Dance Life is a body-positive, fat positive haven of dance and movement for adults. We encourage dancers of any size, gender, age, race, or ability level to embrace themselves as they are right now and find joy in movement for the sheer pleasure of movement. We want to help you declare a truce with your body, and get in touch with movement as something enjoyable and fun.

Please sign up for a class ahead of time before attending. Click over to the Sign Up to register for your class. We also recommend checking out the Before You Begin page before registering for the first time.

Follow us on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok and check our homepage regularly to stay updated on all the Dance Life happenings, changes and additions, plus get all our body positive, fat positive dance content!

How to Get Started

Head to the Class Info and Sign Up page to sign up for whichever class you’d like to attend first. You’ll be asked to register with Vagaro, sign a waiver, and then complete payment for your class. You can get a class package or an unlimited month, or you can purchase a class individually whenever you would like to attend. If you’re planning to get a package or an unlimited month, we recommend you make the package purchase first, and then sign up for classes to expedite the process.

After that, you’re all set to begin! Please be sure to book a class each time you’re ready to attend moving forward. We’re not able to offer refunds for no shows, so please only register for a class you’re sure you can attend! Otherwise, you can cancel your reservation up to two hours before the class to avoid being charged.

Most of our classes are offered in person and via livestream. Check our schedule page or the class description page to see if a class is either/or. Choose whatever class you would like to start with, and show up 10-15 minutes before the class is due to begin.

Pick the right level for you: our classes are grouped into four categories of intensity and complexity. Please see our class listings on any of our calendars to find a class at the level that works best for you:

  • Level B Low to no intensity, beginner level

  • Level B+ Mild intensity or easy to modify, good for all levels

  • Level I Moderate intensity, intermediate level

  • Level A High intensity, advanced level

If you are relatively new to dance or fitness classes: We recommend starting at the B or B+ level of classes. These classes move more slowly and will allow you to get comfortable with prompts like “step touch” and “take four steps to your right”.

Live Stream FAQS

How do I log into the live stream? Our team will send you an email 10-20 minutes before class is due to begin with the link to the Zoom meeting. Check for an email entitled “Link for Dance Life Class Tonight”. If you don’t receive the email or have any issues, please email or call us!

I can’t find the email with the live stream link. Please reach out to us via email, the chatbox on the website, or call us at 608-616-9440 and we are happy to help get you into class.

What is the passcode to join the livestream classes? 12345678 is the code for all classes

Can I share my class with someone else? Dance is always more fun with more people! You are welcome to share a class, but please be sure that person also fills out our waiver, and pays to attend. We appreciate your support of a small business!

What platform are classes held on? All of our classes are offered on Zoom. Please see our Class Info and Sign Up for the link to our classes.

How early should I log on? We recommend signing in ten to fifteen minutes early on your first class to be sure your technology is functional.

How do I use Zoom? If you’re new to Zoom, check out this helpful tutorial. You can test your Zoom connection and hardware ahead of time by clicking here.

What do I do if my image quality is low? To have the best Zoom experience, we recommend you hardwire into your router with an ethernet cable, and that your internet has a minimum of 3mbps upload speed. You can test your internet speed here. The higher your bandwidth, the better Zoom experience you’ll have. If you have lower bandwidth internet, we recommend you keep your video turned off during class for a higher quality video from the instructor.

Do I have to turn my video on during class? No! Whether you don’t want others to see you dance, or you don’t have a webcam, you are welcome to leave your video off during the whole experience. There’s a chatbox where you can ask questions, or you can unmute just your voice to talk with the instructor before, during, or after class.

In-Person Class FAQS

What do I wear? You are welcome to wear whatever makes you comfortable- most people come in yoga clothes, workout clothes, leggings, pajamas, sometimes even work clothes. Please make sure to wear indoor shoes (or outdoor shoes that have been well-cleaned of any dirt and wetness) if you are bringing shoes onto the dance floor. Regular shoes may be worn on all carpeted areas. It’s totally up to you whether you would like to wear shoes or dance barefoot. Ballet slippers are recommended for the ballet classes. Masks are required at all times in our building, and please bring water with you.

When are you open? The building is open any time we are offering classes; please see our Class Schedule page for an updated listing of our current classes and times. If you are looking to speak to a receptionist, please give us a call at 608-616-9440 or email us.

Where are you located? Dance Life is located at 6725 Seybold Rd, Madison WI 53719. We're right across the street from Homesteaders! When you pull into the driveway opposite of Homesteaders, there will be two buildings. Dance Life is in the building on the right, and the entrance to the lobby is on the left hand side of the building. You can park anywhere you can find a spot, especially along the wall that Dance Life's main entrance is located. Parking gets tight in the wintertime, so if you want to be close to the door, do come early! Please take care in the parking lot during winter, as well. Due to how the water collects in the Dance Life parking lot, it often melts and gets slushy in the daytime, and can refreeze into ice in the evening. We put as much salt down as we can!

Why did I get a link to a livestream class if I signed up in person? We send the links out to everyone, including our in person attendees, just in case you have a scheduling issue, or if weather is inclement and you’d prefer to switch to online on short notice!

Other Info

Do you offer recorded classes? Yes! Head to Teachable to see our recorded offerings.

What are your prices? Please see our Pricing page for our most up-to-dance price menu.

What happens when a class is canceled? If a teacher is sick or absent from the studio, we do our best to fill it with the same or a similar class. If we aren’t able to do that, the class will be closed. If you’ve registered for the class, you’ll be notified and refunded. If you’re trying to sign up for a class on Vagaro and the class isn’t listed, that means it has been canceled for the day.

Can I get private lessons with a teacher at Dance Life?  If you would like one-on-one time with any of our teachers to better understand class material or choreography, to learn a full routine for performance, etc, many of our instructors are available for hire for private lessons. Private lessons must be purchased separately and can’t be used with a punch card or unlimited month. Email us for more information.
